Well, omni, if you want a crash narrative of what happened, basically:
1. I got an artbook for my birthday
2. I submitted some scans
3. People really liked them
4. I didn't submit them all
5. I decided to make people fight for them
6. AreteII!
Unlike the first one where the scan was quite hard to work with (anyone who
wants to extract Y.Amano art must be out of their mind), the scan I picked was a
relatively simple scan. It's hard in the respect that it's only her head, and
some parts might have to be drawn in, if that's the intention of the desktop
artist.
And to fill in the rest of the details, I have enough judges and contestants
now- in fact, 6 judges, 6 contestants.
It'd be great if I could see more contestants- the scans are up for grabs, the
scan is relatively easy to work with (eheh)... seems like a lot of people aren't
interested in the contest or the scans - whichever one it is, I guess I can
meddle around with the prize or deadline to get more people to join.

But aside from that, if it's only 6 contestants, and we have 6 very good ones,
quality over quantity is nice - assuming that each participant who expessed
their interest actually submits an entry.

it's almost a week and a half <3
Schattenrand--or it's group page, at least--has been, officially, sleeping. I
kept kicking myself about not getting around to redoing it after Arete--and for
dying in the middle of the first one--but since nothing really was going on in
Minitokyo that I was particularly interested in, and I wasn't really active in
Minitokyo anyway, I ended up ignoring it along with the rest of the
site.
And I come back to find out that Kuri's been up to sumptin to get it alive
again. Hurrah?
In any event, I suppose that I'll see what I can do about getting active here
again. I'm gonna set a goal for myself to redo Schattenrand's frontpage within a
week and a half (aiming for the weekend after next), which means I should have
it done... by the end of summer.
omni's allowed to be cynical concerning himself, okay?
Concerning Kuri's meddling... keep up the good work. I haven't actually looked
too deep into the contest, so I'm not quite sure what's going on there, but
proceed as scheduled--I'm not going to try to take over or anything, but I'll be
doing some things on the side--purportedly.
Yup, Schattenrand will continue to exist, even though it's technically inactive-
but it will stay for archiving purposes :P
... and I'm going to cheat a little bit... lol... well, see how this
goes...
sorry omni, I'm taking over your group >D

TO ALL THE PLANNING BOARD MEMBERS:
There has been some dorama recently about the deletion of the group, but it is
now restored. Please re-apply to join the group ASAP http://the-planning-board.minitokyo.net/
Just died there. With me, it just kinda happens every now and then.
I suck, I know. But I'm back, I think. With a new look and everything.
One last bit of Arete business before I hang myself over it: Just in case you
didn't already figure it out, OA's wallpaper was the one that was disqualified.
It used the wrong scan. It's a nice wallpaper, and, if he's submitted it, which
I'm too tired to check on right now, you should check it out; but it didn't meet
the rules.
Finally we see some results! Congrats to Misa for winning the best entry, and
also to Tama-neko and Kalico. Nice entries indeed. *applause* By the way, thanks
for the results too, shinsengumi.
Quote by DREAMokay first off- i just
"spoke" to Omni on Im. Omni is extremely busy and doesn't have time to
come online. He is grateful and thankful for all the entrants &
shinsengumi's hard work.
also, im assuming OracleAngel didn't submit a wallpaper. The list has 10
submissions whereas only 9 were judged.
congrats to all wallers - that was a very difficult scan [complete-imo]. my
personal favourite was cyd84's..
au revoir
Thanks much, DREAM. I've gone ahead and put up the names on
the results page. Regarding the
entrants, I'm pretty sure that omni noted that one person was disqualified right
off the bat for using the wrong scan, so that would account for only nine
entries amongst ten participants. Still, I'm curious as to what the tenth entry
looks like.

Unfortunately, in regards to the majority of the entries, I do not know the
identity of the submitter and as such I am unable to properly recognize all of
the winners. As such, it would be nice for the participants to fess up (or at
least submit their entries to the Minitokyo galleries) so that we can give kudos
to whomever kudos are due.
Detailed score breakdowns and comments are available on http://minuial.net/arete/. Final
scores are out of a total of 100 and were calculated by
100(a/b)(2/3)+100(c/d)(1/3) where A, B, C, and D stand for total judges' scores,
total possible judges scores, total participants' scores, and total possible
participants' scores, respectively. Participants were not allowed to give
themselves scores.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. That said, thanks to
all for participating in Arete! Again, please go to http://minuial.net/arete/
to see the complete results.
wow. i had forgotten about this competition. as i was a participant i'm sure my
scores won't be missed as i did not save them. i hope i can find the image i did
for the comp.....thanks shinsengumi for taking initiative like this. very noble
indeed. cheers.
Quote by Tama-NekoThat sounds good,
Shinsengumi. I feel that if one of the judges handles the rescoring that there's
not going to be any problems with stuffing the ballot box, so to speak. Do you
want the participants to also send you our rating sheet? Or do you think that'll
just get too complicated?
That would be great!
Given the people noted that they were going to start posting their walls this
weekend, I'll take all scores that I get by Friday at midnight and then get the
final results up.

box, so to speak. Do you want the participants to also send you our rating

I was also a judge. I e-mailed and PMed Omni my scores before the deadline. What
we can do is have all of the judges sit down and compare notes, declare a
winner, and then let everyone go ahead and post their wallpapers.
This is what I propose. The other judges can e-mail me their scores
(eugene.b.chen at gmail dot com) and then I'll go ahead and post the winners and
the comments, after which I'll PM or e-mail all of the participants to alert
them regarding the results and to let them know that they can submit their
entries. I'll also make all of the final scores available to the other judges
for accountability to ensure that there was no shady scoring involved in the
final numbers.
If that sounds good, then we should have results soon and be able to bring Arete
to a close.
At risk to my own health i shall reveal that....
I (not Misa ) am one of the judges. I sent my PM with a paragraph and
score for each entry. So....it's not me. I suppose if everyone agrees then i can
also post my comments (good thing i saved a copy).
Quote by kalicodreamzand if the
results aren't in by saturday, i'm updating with it
anyways.
I was actually going to wait until the 5th, which would have given exactly a
month between the date the results were supposed to be out and the date I got
fed up.
But if you're posting this weekend then I will too! Nothing like company
Quote by Regenbogenhmm... if we knew
who the judges were. I was one of them... *lol* I sent my comments to Omni ages
ago... he actually never said something about it. Well unfortunately I
don't know who the other jugdes were. If I knew then we could all just post the
comments and results here to find out who won... OMNI WHERE ARE
YOU?
I agree...maybe if everyone who was involved and the judges who are still alive
could just post comments/ratings online so everyone could see then we could get
some closure to this competition?

If only omni were here ...
Yes, hats off to shinsengumi for being proactive and getting the results. We all salute you!
*bows*
Finally we see some results! Congrats to Misa for winning the best entry, and also to Tama-neko and Kalico. Nice entries indeed. *applause* By the way, thanks for the results too, shinsengumi.

i shall further identify more Amano entries:

amanoentry by MAKHAN
Moth by OMNI
so that leaves 2 walls left.. as art styles are like fingerprints i believe them to be.
Exodus22 by EPHEMERAL-GARDEN
mail-1 by HANAZAKI

With three judges and three participants reporting, the results are as follows:
Best Entry: mail
Outstanding Entry: amano-2
Honorable Mention: amano_ladyfan
