aww, watching Bob Ross paint makes me wanna find a canvas to paint! but sadly...
all my painting stuff is back home... and I've got no time for painting =_=...
candy, i was thinking of doing something more along the lines of an ink
painting/watercolours. is that acceptable? (i'm making th egoddamn wall either
way, i just wanna know if i can whore myself out for a contest or not )
Quote by candy-chanreply to mick: You
have a good point. But since for now I'm the only judge and only a few people
will participate I don't think it's necessary to add those details, as I will
not discriminate painting styles and techniques.
You should judge, but you can also let members of the group vote on the walls
too to make like, a "people's award" or whatever they're usually
called... more winners, everyone's happy
It's a little example of what I want for the contest. Those are very basic
techniques, it's a tutorial for beginners. I usually take more time on the paint
layers
but yeah it aint hard to paint over a stock when you know your way around PS
Nice tutorial candy =D Strange, I just skimmed through it and it's nearly similar to my 'style' (if I have any)
of painting. Nearly means, yours is way more detailed and better. lol.
Im a art student at school and impressionism/painted style is my favorite
paintings to do. Im a fan of the painted style wallpapers and I hope I can make
a wallpaper of one myself, Im still reading and learning how to do one though. I
hope you accept me, I promise I will try my best for the group. Im
still having troubles understanding everything on the group's page I've read but
I think I got the jift of it . Thanks
for your time, I hope you all have a great day! *waves*.
That brush/brick comparision wasn't my definition of the painting style, but an
answer to the question of the difference between working with tablet and a mouse
^^;;
To me, scenic anime walling to me is kinda like digital matte painting -
combining two or more images (environments) into a single one using a variety of
techniques, including - but not limited to - painting. However, this definition
is pretty broad, so I think candy's is more on the target.
EDIT- reply to muzzies: haha I know, but it's nice to have different views about digital painting, not only on it. I dunno that sounded strange
D:
reply to mick: You have a good point. But since for now I'm the only judge and

Finally, I'm able to join this group... sure took a lot my time.
Anyway, I suggest adding motifs as an important factor to consider in the
contest plus it would be hard to judge the contest itself for painting even if
it is digital has different style and techniques that may arise biases. For
example, some people like realism and treat post-impressionism as not of same
value for it may look rugged due to the strokes that can be clearly seen. Maybe
you should include concept as one of the main factors in judging and the
proficiency plus consistency of the style being used.
Just suggestions... you can just forget about it if you want.
gyaah a paint group!
how envy you all, i like painting but sucks at it D': *hides from minitokyo
painters*
and omg lots of painting tutorials heree *o* <33 *studies*
I found a couple of sites with some Corel Painter tutorial links. I dunno how
useful they are or who uses Corel Painter, but I figured it would be suitable
for this group. =D
Hey all :3 I got the gbook message and it's been a while since I've joined a
group. I'm actually kind of interested in the whole digital painting business
but I am failing miserably/ haven't really got the hang of it yet.
The competition also looks pretty interesting *_* I'll probably join in, since I
have about a week before the due date free ^_^
Do shop around and check prices for drawing tablets. You don't have to get Wacom
which I think is quite expensive, other brands work just the same. Okay maybe
some will have less features but weigh out whether paying the extra dollars is
indeed worth the fancy features and whether you really need those features.
To me it's enough to just have a mouse that holds like a pen - anything on top
of that is bonus. I do love the pressure sensitivity and dynamic brushing
features though.
I have a Genius 6"x8" pad which dad bought for around USD60 12 months
ago - which is cheaper than a Wacom 4"x5" pad. Who cares what brand it
is, as long as it does the job!
As if having an expensive brand helps you to draw better --> remember
"there are some things money can't buy"

Gosh, anything from Lineage, Juno Jeong, Yoshitaka Amano and Makoto Shinkai
would quench you thirst for impressive artworks ..
lol euna, you know tablets are expensive *_*
anyways I took in consideration all of your thoughts on the contest, and it will
be released very soon. Sit tight!
Quote by MuZ0NaZTo put it simply, if
painting with a tablet is like with a very fine brush, then painting with a
mouse is like doing that with a brick.
Lol. Nice sentence. I'll keep that in my mind and probably buy one when my
parents are not around. xD
Oh yeah, just bouncing off supermonchi's idea of scenic contests - we could use
some nice artwork in the Abstract section. I can tell you that it's more of a
misc. section in MT. I'm sure scenic works will be just as nice to have as
starscapes (probably nicer). =D
Btw candy, having a contest is definitely good way to attract new members and
also to promote the group once the results are published. For one I myself am a
total sucker when it gets to challenges - lol!
Any ideas what to do for the contest yet?
AP's Scenic Wallers group started off with a collab challenge, aiming to
encourage the members to get to know as well as learn from each other - which I
thought is an awesome idea. Though collabs generally do take longer to do with
all the back-and-forth communication, and can get annoying for some people esp
if their partners have slow internet connection (me) or never get to meet up due
to the different timezones.
Another idea would be to get started with something as simple as painting
natural elements e.g. water, fire, clouds, grass, trees - anything that is not
man-made. I've never done natural elements before (except for snow), so it'll be
an awesome learning exercise for me, but even for the more experienced painters
maybe it'll make a good exercise for them to explore different painting
styles.
Anyways, just some ideas to throw in the think tank - cheerios! ^^

hahahah a brick x__X
weeee painted-style..!
my walls aren't really painted-style...but i do love painting.
Can't agree more with muz - a drawing tablet is your bread and butter if you're
serious about digital art. Otherwise just simply too awkward to get anything
done using a mouse <-- I'm spoilt..
That said - HI, I'm a new member here!
I've been walling for about 1yr now - which started as a motivation to learn
photoshop+illustrator but leaning towards obsession these days. I have a drawing
tablet and absolutely loving it. Still a noob in a lot of things and esp with
digital painting stuff. I don't have any background in design or art, so feel
free to hammer my bad design decisions or whatever - I'm open to crits.
Looking forward to getting to know you guys and learn a bunch of stuff from this
group!
PS. my idea of digital painting: is like roadtripping to a world imaginable only
by you - in pixel format.
sure you can, starrliteangel.
personaly I don't have no tablet :_: but I may be getting one in the next month
or something. So of course you can paint without one, it's just harder with a
mouse, for the reasons you can understand.
is it okay if I join this group? I got really hooked onto digital painting after
I saw "The Last Breath". Soo..is it possible to make a painted
wallpaper without using a tablet?
aww, watching Bob Ross paint makes me wanna find a canvas to paint! but sadly... all my painting stuff is back home... and I've got no time for painting =_=...
OMG, Bob Ross
I used to watch him when I was at home, sick from school :P
