If I remember correctly...the cat was found my Haruhi, Imouto or Mikuru...Imouto takes kind of adopted it. It was given the ability to speak in the Episode 00 by Yuki modifying it's "data" or whatever she does hehe.

Hmm... Should we start a new topic? Does anyone have any info on Shamisen (the talking cat in Mikuru Asahina's Adventures episode 00 [by the title screen], episode 1 [by TV broadcast], episode 11 [by Manga order])? Like he appears for several one brief moments and then is never seen again... If not facts, then does anyone have any guesses? Implications made in Episode: Kyon's sister seems to like him a bit and Shamisen is a recent acquaintance of Yuki's. Note: Kyon's siter is so cheek-pinchably cute.
