Have a nice trip flyin! ^^
Hope there's something in ILD by the time you get back *fingers
crossed*
Sorry I don't quite follow what you're saying on the last paragraph there
alterlier, but you're absolutely right that be it musicians or artists we're all
delivering to an audience which our existence depended on. flyin is also totally
spot on with the fact that a lot of trends emerge from past successes and that
not a lot of artworks nowadays is completely original, I agree with all that. In
fact, I'd be naive to say that I haven't been influenced by other people's works
either on this site or from daily observations.
All I'm saying is I don't want to limit myself to the 'comfort zone' if you know
what I mean, whether that means making something that's guaranteed to get much
love from other people, or doing something using a technique that I know I will
kick butt. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with being in the comfort
zone, of all people I love being in the comfort zone and I definitely love
compliments - who doesn't?
However, to me personally I like to challenge myself to the new height with each
thing that I do - let it be as hard as learning a new software, experimenting
with new techniques or as simple as meeting a deadline, without compromising
quality. As a beginner, I believe these little exercises as painful as they can
be, would really help me grow as an artist - both walling or general artwork.
And to me achieving these things are more important than getting lots of faves.
Suppose with my comment I just wanted to encourage you to not be afraid of
making something that may not get the popularity you deserve. And also an
encouragement to grow - whatever 'grow' means to you.
But yeah, as I said, it's your work and your decision what to do. Art is such a
personal and subjective thing, don't let anyone's opinions influence your
potentials.
LOL I'm taking this far too seriously!
Anyways, just a friendly opinion, no offense to anyone
PS. +1 vote for viewkazama's blown away wall, it's sooooo cuute!
Hello, you guys might be ever seen this one a couple days ago ^_^ well this
wallie once deleted by the admin cause of they said there's some problem to
download the pic.... so it can't be helped then upload this one -____-' Hope
this one doesn't have any problem
This convo reminds me a bit of a discussion we've been having on IN: here.
To be honest, on the whole, I don't care as much as I used to, but I'm not going
to say I don't care at all either. 'Cause when I submit walls on these forums
I'm basically asking for feedback, and there's no point in getting feedback if
you don't plan on taking some of it into account/improving on it at
all.
That's partly why I was really happy when na-kun started up Instant Noodles, 'cause for me it's a nice place
to get a bit of feedback in addition to my website, but it's close enough right
now that it's just friends or people I know. I feel a lot more comfortable
posting things that are a little stranger than usual on there. So I'm definitely
planning to take more advantage of that in the future.
On the other hand having my own website with crap definitely factors in how I
wall, because I want to make attractive enough walls that will make people want
to check out the site for additional res and what-not when I post it on the
forums. Balancing out the weirdness (my synonym with originality) and popular
appeal hasn't been horribly difficult though, by my own set of standards
anyways, and I always have too many ideas to spread out as is, so yeah... two
cents.
I'm not sure I completely understood your comment about trends alterlier, but I
think they start when people look at someone else's "original idea"
that worked, and then try to copy that into their works. It's just the way art
works in general, really. Cyclical cycles and all. But um... I doubt the dot in
background would become a trend unless it looks ridiculously good on the desktop
xD And at the bottom of it all, a certain amount of creativity is demanded by
people on forums, especially after you've been around for a while.
I'm going to be away on a short holiday-but-not-quite-holiday vacation until
next Wednesday, so if current group admins can make sure things get too out of
hand when I'm away, or find someone else who can take charge for a bit, that
would be AWESOME.
monchi I have to admit that you are right when you say that actually there's no
need to do something because someone else is gonna like it, however you cannot
say art is about individualism, of course in the moment when you are creating
something is all about you and your canvas" however what you concieve in
your mind and then try to show is what you are trying to say, not to yourself
cuz you already know it, to the world and those who dare to see things like you,
if is actually something unique/weird.
(the bleatles needed an audience to show themselves, to transmit their music,
artists until now needed not only ambition but motivation to be capable of try
and only try to make others understand what they already knew because of their
pieces)
there's absoluty no point in create something for the fact of your own desire of
having it, those ambitions are rather the ones that can help you out in the
proposal to threaten the world with something new.
taking out that of "individualism" what I think, what I'm sure you
really wanted to say is that if you are truly that brave, smart (or stupid) to
make the world take a look at you with something so irrelevant in your hands and
drag them into a whole new kind of style, impossible for their minds, and
unimaginable for their eyes, is that you really achieved that thing of been an
artist.
what do you think?
alt, if I were you I would go with whatever the heck I wanna do, I wouldn't give
much thought whether other people would like it or not. To me art is about
individualism and uniqueness rather than doing what everyone else likes. Which
is what creativity and originality all about - there would be no Dali or
Michaelangelo if they were to conform with what's considered 'favourable'
artwork at that time. Same goes with The Beatles and Elvis, they did their thing
regardless what the trend was at the time, and ended up revolutionising the
whole music industry.
But strictly speaking of anime wallpapers, not everyone sees it as artwork
(prolly only small minority do) and people might just like something because the
guy is so hot or something, regardless whether the piece itself is well done or
not - so it's really your decision to make as a waller, whether you want to be
the crowd pleaser or be the weird genius - in a good way
Or both
Quote by alterliera question for all
kind of wallers and non wallers also that want to give their opinion here.
Do you actually stop yourself when you are working on something, something
awkward, too weird, pretty hard to understand, and change it just because you
think in the acceptance of the people who is gonna see it, the ones who are
gonna critize the wall, and you prefer to make it simple enought or typical but
in a way original" at the same time....?
jaja what I actually guess want to ask is that if this thing of
"acceptance" is the reason of the trendies, styles that people try to
stay on ....just to no feel themselves worst...or maybe not worst but
ehm....different...mn just to no feel themselves as if they were behind of
everything?
if I want to put a freaking white dot in a freaking black background I am going
to create I freaking weird trendy of freaking weird dots?
jesus..
I sure don't. I wall what I feel like walling, not what others are interested in
seeing.
This is likely one reason why most of my "young" walls (less than few
months old) have less than 30 favs.*
Frankly, I don't care. If I like it, or
even if I don't like but learned something from it, that's enough for me.
That's one of the reasons why I like simple-ism, it's full of people who like to
expeirment and go beyond the box, and blaze new trails for themselves and for
others.
*other reasons include I don't respond to people who comment/fav, socialize on
MT in general, or join a billion wallpaper groups
a question for all kind of wallers and non wallers also that want to give their

Is that only for wallpapers, or can it be doujinshi or abstract as well?
