I'm all for just featuring the winners :D

I think there aren't going to be any more votes on them, anyway, so I'll chuck everything into the gallery and fish out just the winners at the top :) But I'll probably do that in a few days' time >.> There's just... a lot of stuff flying around at the moment <.<

:D the judges and the latest member works are now gone :D well i have a suggestion : why dont we use the 1st winner of the latest 3 fortnightly contest are there? plus, i think to having the winner on the page are nicer than to have all participant's works on the page... maybe make it like this :
the top 3 are have the thumbnail and a link to their wallpaper. the other works are have the links only? Cause i think the people *like me* that have limited internet bandwidth or the dial-up user, this kind of page are kinda wasting our bandwidth *that's why i hate almost all groups that having a design Dx it kills me*

well, that just my suggestion i dont know you're guys will like it or not :D

@ Misa
Like eewwww! blushing! But thanks for the tip - no blushing in sight.

The story to the picture is that Kyoko just had a revelation about something and feels like she just emerged from her coccon as a butterfly.

Lines for the currently worked-on version are coloured. The current butterfly colour scheme is brown and cream on really dark brown.

-message received from almighty MT moderator Misa, image allowed as long as no sexual overtones are displayed :)-

@tishdon

That is fine.
If it's full frontal nudity we don't mind it as long as it's not sexually suggestive. So if you plan to colour it, colour it as long as she's not blushing. :)

I have a question, i've posted the first BW stroke version of new wall I was considering on doing.

My question is, is this picture acceptable for the scan/picture on a walll not just on MT but from your perspectives?

After I finished vectoring it, I realised that it contained a sort of -tastful- frontal nudity. So before I go much further - more work on the vector has been made since this JPG was created- is the very image acceptable.

BTW the picture is from Chapter 36 of Skip Beat.

Kyoko Butterfly - Sorry no thumb available.

Please give it a comment :D
I wanna know what do you guys think about my wallies xD

Strength of A Leo
is my entry to the zodiac Competition, and I tried to post a button, but failed miserably. Hope it good enough.

Hello!
I had such an exhausting week! The only thing I did was reading and studying! Tomorrow I must work and sell clothes and then my weekend begins! But after all the reading I'm actually looking forward to tomorrow. :) I started something for the zodiac theme... I hope I'll manage to finish it!

Hmm... well I am wishing you all a nice weekend!

@Misa: Sounds your week was as exhausting as mine... I hope you're feeling better by now!

@dementia: Welcome to UA! :)

We have to do all that by ourselves T_T

*sobs*

When I was just feeling all excited about making my copcycat challenge wall *sobs* My photoshop got jammed right in front of me... *sighs* Usually it gets jammed when I work on it for about 30-40 minutes... I think it's back to it old sickness again. :(

Sounds terrible Misa. :( But are you supposed to do that all by yourself or with a partner?

kiru- the theme ends ... I don't actually know when lol. I don't think it'll be any time soon though, since we have very few entries. I think if we leave it up for another 2 months we still might not even get any more entries, but I say if you enjoy making the wall it doesn't matter if it's for the competition or not ;) But chances are, the comp won't be closed until much much later.

dementia- I posted a reply in your guestbook.

SOrry guys for the nonexistence of me. I spent the past 3-4 days drawing this huge presentation (2xA1 sheets) and subsequently came down with a cold. I'm even bludging at home and didn't go to uni this morning for a 2 hour elcture because i feel so bad :\ Guh.

ok since I am a noob..What is the zodiac theme, and how do we enter Competitons?
How do i get a mentor, I like that idea

kiru wants to ask:
when is the deadline for our contest? Copycat and zodiac theme... I'll try to make one, but i'm not sure if i can finished it :D

I am not exactly into the group it seems, there seems like a removal of members who are inactive...
Oh well, regarding the zodiac, I am working already on the wall, but it is gonna be a bit delayed.

Okie. I'm done ramming into Misa's gallery. ^^ I'm a little tired to check on those who're not active though. (Don't worry, those who're still alive and kicking, I've gone through your gallery and Misa seemed to have done that previously as well XD)

There's about 6 walls from Misa's gallery that are worth for the copycat challenge. ^^ *gave lampy a choco cookie* I'm going to start on it pretty soon. XD So let's start copycatting!

Lol what happened was the the Planning Board was accidentally deleted so they restored the group and wanted to get back the members who were previously in it. XD

PS:

the DRAWING BOARD...

Just for the cute banner geeky made XD

Ah! can't breathe, weight of textbooks too heavy!

?Is Candy-chan's message meant for us? - or more to the point is it supposed to mean something? Uhh maybe I missed something important - if I did it's well and truly missed now X-P

Administrators of the group: should inactive administrators be removed and replaced?
If replaced, via nominations and voting- or how?

I think the admins do a great job and like the rest of us poor busy members, may need to absent themselves from MT for a little while. I think as long as they intend to come back and the group is not totally admin-less, why remove them. Perhaps if an admin knows that he/she can not continue to be around or contribute to the group then perhaps PM to a fellow admin asking to be removed would be polite.

Replacement- I think volunteering with the approval of current admin would be acceptable. 'cause only people who know they can do the job and have the time volunteer.

Member acceptance criteria: too high or too low?

Member acceptance criteria is fine at the current point. After all the level currently used has been slowly refined through discussions, complaints and membership acceptance levels.

What do you want to see to those you feel are too appreciated?

There is something really wrong with that sentence, but can't quite put my finger on what is exactly wrong thou.

Do you mean the members of this group who, while being an active member, achieves greater -ummm...- appreciation through group interaction? In that case I think that -if they wish to- remain a member of the group and perhaps participate in the proposed mentor scheme. Or at least offer constructive comments to ~us~ less polished members.

Or perhaps those artists outside of the group who achieve a lot of favouritism throught whacking a unknown -possibly ecchi- female character on a swirly completely non-original BG and adding wings? If that's the case since they are outside of the group the only thing possible is to leave pointed 'constructive' comments to help them improve.

What is your definition of appreciated?

Not the amount of counted favourites that for sure! I suppose my definition of apreciation would be the amount of constructive, or well thought out questions/comments left about a submitted piece of artwork. Not 'Ahh! pretty D/L + fav' but something that reflects that the commentor put a tiny bit of thought into the comment before posting - or at least posted the comment after downloading it!

Member mentoring scheme
Would you like to have a wallpaper mentor, so to speak? In other words, every time you post up something, your mentor must comment- or, every time you are working on a new piece of artwork, you can ask your mentor to check over it before you submit.

Great idea! It is similar to what currently happens but the mentor scheme seems more dependable then crossing your fingers and hoping somebody answers. Huuummmm might take a while -and patience- to implement. If that's what the admins choose to do, good luck!

Continuation!- Sharing Techniques and Skills
Do you think this is better in tutorial format, or would you prefer typed instructions just in the guestbook?
Or should we archive them?

I personally prefer tutorial format sometimes pictures give that tiny bit of extra help needed, but written instructions are just as helpful. Perhaps a plain 'for tutorials click here' link from UA to somewhere else would do the job and clear up space in UA.

What competitions do you want to see in 2007?
Prizes? Challenges? Cross Group competitions? Continuation of the UA themes or should they just go due to slow entries?

Any kind of activity that aims to improve group activity is great, however I think everyone is really busy at the moment - hence the slow spot.

Perhaps a new kind of competion - different to the current one. Where perhaps the prizes could be a double entry into a single entry comp, and exclusively created original brush, or a request for a specific tutorial. Something that is definitely a prize but not necessarily expensive.

TO ALL THE PLANNING BOARD MEMBERS:
There has been some dorama recently about the deletion of the group, but it is now restored. Please re-apply to join the group ASAP

Hello dear UA members,

apparently I am the first member to reply in the Annual Discussion 3. O_o

-Member acceptance criteria: too high or too low?
In my opinion these criteria are fine. People might be a bit "confused" about the aspect that they "graduate" if they are too "successful". But that is another question actually and we already discussed it in the past: about why people might not wanna be considered as "Underappreciated".

-What do you want to see to those you feel are too appreciated?
I'm afraid I don't really understand this question... but it might be due to my poor English! Or is it "say" instead of "see"... I am not sure... So I'll leave this question out for now.

-What is your definition of appreciated?
My English online dictionary tells me (*lol*...) "Appreciate is much used in cases where something is in danger of being overlooked or undervalued". Please don't think that I only understand now what "appreciated" means, but I wanted to check what my dictionary would answer to that question.
When I joined this group it was mostly because Misa always helped me so much at the beginning with all her comments on my works. Without these comments the pen tool would probably still be unknown to me. O_o I was all new in the Photoshop/Illustrator world so I thought UA would be the perfect place for me to receive help.
As for the definition of "appreciated"... I find some works at MT too appreciated when they obviously only get their attention of watchlist friends. And that is where in my opinion UA is needed... So all members are actually asked to pay attention to eachothers works.
Are we doing that? Well I can only speak for myself... and I don't do it! I could bring up excuses now... but I'll leave it out. O_o

I fear I am drifting away a little from the actual questions. But thinking about it now shouldn't we try to comment each others works a little bit more? But that brings me to the next question...

-Member mentoring scheme
Would you like to have a wallpaper mentor, so to speak? In other words, every time you post up something, your mentor must comment- or, every time you are working on a new piece of artwork, you can ask your mentor to check over it before you submit.

I personally think that's a good idea... that people who are seeking help get the possibility to find a "mentor" among UA members. But I guess not too many people will ask for a mentor, or will they? And would it bring more attention to the works of members in the group? I don't think so. Some people post into the UA guestbook when they completed a new work. Maybe we should do this more regularly. Otherwise the UA group, if we follow the definition of "appreciated",doesn't make that much sense. People should feel like... "Oh yeah, my works don't get enough attention, they are overlooked because my watchlist isn't really crowded with people... joining UA would help me with that."

Anyways, I know that commenting takes time too. I am really busy finishing my university but I'd be willing to comment on people's works more often. :) So I wouldn't mind if we try to do something like a mentoring system in UA.

-Sharing Techniques and Skills
I think posting tutorials in the guestbook isn't such a good idea because who'll feel like clicking through all the pages hoping someone might have posted a tutorial. So I prefer them archived on the UA site.

-What competitions do you want to see in 2007?
I didn't submit anything in the last competitions. Main reason is cause I lack time to finish my works. I only start... and then I can progress so slowly since I only find time for it in the late evening that I almost never come to an end. However I finished something for my gallery... so I could have managed something for the competition as well. Therefore I must say that I probably wasn't that motivated. Why is that so? Hmm... the topics are okay, but nothing too exciting... So I'd maybe take part if I had a lot of freetime.
That means as for myself, the competitions would have to be more exciting, more motivating... Maybe it's a bit too much of the same from theme to theme. I mean there are different topics... but still. I was curious about it when I first joined the group. And I always wanted to take part, now it's just "Ok, let's see whether I can come up with something..." And then nothing happens (at least in my case because some members did submit entries...).

I think it's nice that we have no deadline... however a little time pressure can be helpful too. So maybe bringing deadlines back would also be an idea. Then nobody will finish it in time since there is no real pressure like at school. True... Anyways it should be fun to take part in the competitions. But when a new theme is announced here no one has to say "yes, count me in". So if we really want more entries something like that would make sense. Also to make sure that not only one person is interested enough to submit something. Like in the copy cat theme... we only have an entry by Evo. O_o

Most certainly a reward is also missing. Again I can only speak for myself... but I can be quite lazy especially when it comes to doing things that won't change anything. If someone wins in one UA theme... what happens? Nothing! He or she might even miss it cause it is never really being announced and he or she might not understand the voting system beneath the thumbs that indicate who is about to win or who won with how many votes. It's no where explained, is it? I remember I didn't understand it when I first took part. ^^
Maybe we could do something like collecting points. If you take part in a theme you get a certain amount of points, if you win or become 2nd, 3rd you get a certain amount of points. And people who say that they will submit an entry and then don't... lose points. The person who is leading with the points "wins" a special position among the members? Like first place in the UA "class" on our long path to becoming appreciated?

Ah, that's another thing I wanted to say... I don't know whether it is so good that "being appreciated" almost becomes a negative word in our group. If someone joins he or she feels like being overlooked... so he or she wants to improve. Apart from sharing ideas with the UA members I am also here to improve. Is it really necessary that people who finally get attention and are in the top favored submissions a couple of times graduate from the group? I don't really see why because if someone manages that it would be quite an advertisement for the group... so why should we scare these people away? It would only help us to get some more movement in here in my point of view. So I am not sure whether this aspect is really necessary in the acceptance criteria.

Okay... that's what I had to say on the topics. There might be many typos and English grammar/vocabulary mistakes. I apologize... I must continue with my university work now. It's snowing here... in March. *sigh* Well at least I don't feel tempted to leave my desk. *lol*
Thanks for all the people who reached this point and are still reading my mumble. O_o I got a bit lost... *lol* And most of it was just ideas... hoping for further discussions...

Take care and good luck to all those of you who suffer from constant uni-stress! -_-
