What've you got in mind for this next month?

And get well soon!

Oh no, candy is back. o_O

HI EVERYONE
what about trying to gather stuff for the next featured artist? I might try to work on that next weekend, but not now =_=
crawling from my bed to the kitchen for this weekend will be plenty enough physical activity for my poor sick body.
Hope you had an awesome month ;D

wow....even Death Note goes Art Nouveau.... :D

Quote by MapleRoserandom question, would Celtic knot type of design be considered art nouveau?

Celtic knots are more of a cultural (graphical) motif, while Art Nouveau is a movement with a specific time period and visual theme associated with it. So while Art Nouveau may incorporate Celtic knots or have designs based off of knots, I don't consider knots in and of themselves to be Art Nouveau.

random question, would Celtic knot type of design be considered art nouveau?

Quote by candy-chanDREAM you'll be able to tell us if your artbook is a good buy or not, since it would be cool to add some content to the books section. Btw I agree with the Beethovenfries but I like the goldfishe one a lot.

yes; it is an excellent art-book i have seen it in person- the version that is being held for me is shrink-wrapped. :)

honestly the book is in the same category as some of the $70 art-books i own. and it is well over 200 pages or so with very detailed text. ^^

here is Beethovenfries compiled together. merged

it's not really.

So yesterday I came across a very beautiful artbook with a lot of works reminiscent of Klimt's style. I'm gonna put the CLAMP scans on hold and scan it for direct download from my journal, since it's not really anime.
You can admire the cover here.
Expensive little sucker, but Bookoff was selling it at 15% of the purchase price, so I'd say it was a lucky find indeed.

EDITED
i have a Klimt art-book on order so i will post some scans after i get that; perhaps on my site. it is a very high quailty Tasche edition . 273 pages or so for only $12. ;) i have looked over about a dozen or so Klimt books over a 6 month or so period. Strangely though the cover image is "Water Serpents I" not "The Kiss". i am not thrilled about the cover layout but the inside is excellent and contains works that rarely get attention.

Gustav Klimt's "The Kiss" tutorial from Photoshop Creative by Hannah Gal. clicky
Hannah Gal, an artist has composed d/a tutorials for Klimt, Van Gogh, & Monet amongst other luminaries. i have included a source image as well.

here are a few Amano scans that i haven't posted here that "fit" [albeit at times loosely], the Art Nouveau style. slight nudity warning.

"Hana to Hebi": Cover A B C

"The Virgin": 1 2 3 4

"Tarot Cards": Empress The Moon The Hermit

personally i am partial towards Klimt's "Beethovenfries : Die Feindlichen Gewalten" and "Goldfische"

NOTE: Beethovenfries (Beethoven Freeze) above is "Die Feindlichen Gewalten (The Hostile Powers) a very small part of the mural that encompasses several works. The full work can be viewed there.

:D

oh yeah and tama: the link to the gallery directs me to Bakuretsu Hunters, is that right? I see only on quarantined item that looks nouveau :/

OK scratch having Mucha as a first featured artist, gathering everything would take me so long. Since I've seen activity around klimt lately(me included lawl) ima pick him!
If anyone feels like gathering stuff to feature another artist, illustrator architect anything~ well post what you find here we shall add it to the group content :D

It is a very nice picture & does have swirly hair, but Amano's work is more ethereal. Where as something like this shows the thick black outlines on the hair, lots of fine detail within the body, and all topped off with the decorative borders.

Look through This Alphonse Mucha gallery. Think about the recurring motifs and styles that you see in those pictures.

Japonisme:

Since people were interested when I mentioned the book I received for my birthday last year, I thought I'd mention it here.

Amazon (uk) sent me an e-mail offering it to me with a 34% discount!

Japonism: Cultural Crossings BetweenJapan & The West. Maybe an Amazon closer to where you are might have it on special offer too.
