Wow this group is cool! Can i join? I only recently started trying to draw anime
characters and their eyes are so hard! Well... i guess im here to learn huh? ^^
well julian1, you do have a point, but not everyone is good at coming up with
original stuff (like me ^^' ). At least they're not tracing directly like in
vectoring (although that can be fun and good practice using the pen
tool)...
I just thought that there was a lack of activity here since December, so I
started up the display again. But we're all administrators here, so if you've
got ideas and want to start something other than the monthly display contest, go
right ahead.
I agree with Fireflywishes. I understand Julian1's point but we are a club that
not only encourages those with definitely have their own style but to also those
who are on their way to finding their style and to do that, often one must
emulate another.
I like using screenshots because it's more likely not to have been done but I
appreciate any great work no matter the subject...in fact, I find it interesting
to find a pic of a scan I did and someone else did it too.
I guess what I'm rambling on about is, is that we should keep open minds and
remember that from imitation, comes originality!
Well... It's not that copying other people's work is wrong (in fact it's a good
practice), but winning the monthly display with a work not your own just doesn't
sound right.
I just wished people participating in the display would put a bit of effort so
that their work look more original. That also means that you have the bragging
rights, and you would have felt more satisfaction for winning.
Um... I'm not a great artist, perhaps not even a half-way 'ok' one... and I
don't claim to be... but for now I can only do from what I see in manga or
anime... so, I hope I'm not doing anything wrong... ...mine are somewhat different... I think... *worries*
...gomen... for my lack of individuality in my artwork... u_u
@julian1: Speaking as one of those artists who does "copy" existing
artwork and enters it in the display... I get inspired by screenshots or scans
that I see. Because a lot of these are online, I like to draw my own copy so I
have a paper copy for myself. As for entering it in display, it seems to be an
epidemic that the activity in groups is decreasing... I only enter my artwork in
the display so that there are more entries (I never expect to get a vote, much
less win.). It's also a way I can feel like I'm participating because my main
creative outlets are 3-d crafts and photography (both of which would not be
acceptable in MT).
Something has been bothering me with how things are running here. It seems that
there are members who copied existing artworks and entered them into the monthly
display (not to mention some of them actually won). So, I was thinking, this is
a doujinshi club, so I was expecting more original stuff.
It is understandable that most of us do not have the skill, but seriously I
think originality comes first. Even if it's fanart, members should put in a
little more effort so that it's not a complete rip off (sorry if I'm harsh) of
original works. Maybe some of you don't have your own style yet, but even small
things like pose, expressions, gestures, clothes, colour atc can be original
too.
Just a notice... I have only received votes from 6 members so far... so please
send them in by the 15th! (Let's get a lot! It'll make up for the small number
of submissions we had for this month's display... )
It's quite nice.... Must be the best so far =D
okay, updated the page, will make the new layout later... unless someone else wants to do it
