let me know and I can tweak the ground rules a little bit. Let's see how this
goes

OMG I love you Tama this is a awesome idea!
Finally saw your Romeo and Juliet wall too (Yay for flying ponies! Although pony
tails do NOT look like the tails that series gives them.
)
So now that it's almost "next year" I'm wondering if we are going to
have another round of w?w. I'm hoping to actually enter this time (for once).
Anyone know when the next competition is going to be?
The seasonal wall idea sounds neat. Except staring at winter pictures (cold
=BAD) is not my idea of a fun time so I think I'm gonna skip the Wintery
Wonderland contest.
I think that would be a really cool idea. I agree, probably the easiest way to
do it would be an outside website, that way you avoid all the problems of an mt
gallery.
I think it's a good idea ^^ and you can potentially generate a lot of activity
especially around now, nearing Christmas time. I don't think there's a limit to
the number of items you can add to the featured gallery... at least, haven't
bumped up against it yet for Simple-ism, http://simple-ism.minitokyo.net/gallery/
so groups might be the easiest go. It's really easy to add items to group
gallery, the only caveat as Maple mentioned is that the person who submitted the
gallery item needs to be a member of the group.
Forum threads would probably be the next easiest bet, offsite gallery is not a
bad idea as well except if there's constant maintenance and whoever's running it
suddenly drops off the face of the earth for whatever reason, it could kill the
project (for a while at least, I don't know what your availability/interest in
running an offsite gallery is like).
So I'd suggest starting off small-ish just to see what the reaction is like, and
I'd probably go with a forum thread for Christmas. You could consider making a
group announcement thread for it (feel free to use the Planning Board if you
don't want to start up a new group) with some basic guidelines on how the thing
would work. If you're worried about messy threads Maple's suggest to close the
thread off would work, you can just ask people to link "entries" in
the group guestbook. I can make a section for your project on Planning Board's
main page as well with a link to the forum display thread so people can get to
it.
An offsite gallery would work similarly too, in which case you'll probably just
announce the project with guidelines + a link to the offsite gallery, and the
offsite can be linked on the main page as well (similar to Tama's w?w
section).
So yeah, however you do it, I do think it's a great idea and you should go for
it. And you shouldn't worry too much about the format or what's the best way to
do it, 'cause as long as you're motivated and excited things will work and it
won't matter if you're using a thread or a group or an offsite gallery. My main
and only suggest would be to pick one holiday (or one season) to start off with,
'cause if you start with all the seasons/holidays in the year I think you'll
burn out pretty quick xD; See how the first one goes, and then you can plan out
how you want to do the rest
I think it's a nice idea, to collect seasonal walls (does that include
holliday-related walls too? I see a lot of Halloween-related stuff. What about
doujinshi and vectors, or is this idea only for walls to use to decorate your
desktop around the appropriate season?).
Uh, I'm not sure what the best way to do it is.... my first instinct was a forum
thread (with links as opposed to thumbnails, since we can't use tables in the
forum, thumbs might be a bit messy, but then again, it'd be more user-friendly I
suppose), and then close the thread so people can go to it to look and find
things, but not post useless comments like "wow thanks".
groups... if someone has a lot of time, they could put up a rotation thing of
thumbs on the group page when the appropriate time comes, it might be good. The
problem is that it'll have to be changed often (somewhat), and it'd be a pain to
find those walls again when the season comes again unless it's recorded
somewhere. The group gallery, as you mentioned, wouldn't be much help since
they're ordered by faves descending, and to add things to the group gallery, the
artist has to be a member of the group.
an offsite thing might be another option to consider. It's much more flexible
and easier to manage and categorize than a group gallery. Then link the offsite
page from... somewhere (a forum thread? MTM during the appropriate season?).
Okay, so I had an idea long ago and didn't know what to do with it. I've
mentioned it breifly and flyin suggested I try in here (so blame her if you
think it's a bad idea, heh heh
)
Basically it was something to encourage seasonal walls. A source that would link
up to scans with seasonal appropriate images, and a place to easilly access
walls of a certain season without having to trawl through thousands of pages to
get to what you want.
At first I was thinking about using the Forum. A thread per season. A new one
for Christmas/winter, a new one for Spring, another for Easter, or summer,
halloween, thanksgiving, etc. But I figure that would just end up clogging the
Forum up, and would result in messy threads that were just as unpleasant to
search through.
Then I thought about a Group. But I know absolutely FA about how to run a group,
and there appears to be limited room for gallery items, which goes against the
idea of providing a scan-reasource & all year round gallery.
So, what do you think?
Do you think the idea has any worth, and if so how would you go about setting it
up?
Or do you think I'm onto a lost cause?
I really wasn't going to mention it till I saw Peniko's autumn wallpaper
"Orange", which has a strong seasonal feel to it. So please, let
me know what you think.
