@ dc - I know :( I felt that your wall entry was the one that really needed a description and I loved it.
But overall, I'm just annoyed at how people spent lots of time carefully laying out a concept and people fail to see it because of not reading the description or just ... other reasons.

EDIT: And the time factor to me was uber frustrating. I did most of my entries in exam preparation time and I was willing to take out the time and thought even though it could have jeopardised my schooling and future choices in Uni. Yet I still was willing. Doesn't matter any more.

I don't want to bicker any more because what's done is done - I guess my expectations were just a little too different to what I imagined *shrugs*

What the heck. :D

REMINDER: TREC STARTS TOMORROW XD

@misa ... nobody has anything against you or your wall misa. but the fact is that one can feel lied to when part of the rules state you need to submit a description with your wall... so we spent time on it. for example if you read my description for round three you'll see what i mean. On the other hand: as tecno mentioned NWP was the group that started the whole contest craze around here... with BattleRoyale I. And it was not about competing but about bringing ideas and ppl together. On that note: I really don't care how the judges saw my wallpaper in round three or round one for that matter. What I was looking forward to was how ppl from around the world, with different cultures, tastes will respond to the same theme. That was the reason I organized a non-anime contest as well, so I can pull out the fact that we all like anime art, out of the picture.(The Movie Poster).
So I would say those competitions (at least as they were intended originally) are about self exploration and art experimenting under a specific theme, other than random wallpaper creating for levels or credits or fame or whatever. As Makhan said in a community that vast as mt there always will be different opinions, that's why it's a comunity.
I have to admit I hear and understand how Shuei is feeling, simply because time is the most precious...
I leave you all with that...
DCout~

@tecno: yeah....it was the BATTLE ROYALE (that didn't quite finish >.>) that was the start of the large scale contest.

@Misa-chan: Aw, don't be sad. We love your work, no matter how bad it sucks....*poke poke* j/k

@smile: very true about the explainations. Many contemporary and modern artist created some pretty funked up pieces of art. A large part of the modern art movement was based on the meaning behind the works. That's why many of them wrote journals and such. Rauschenberg, Lichtenstein, Ryman as well as many others purposefully created artwork that NEEDED an explaination. To be honest, it depends on the viewer. If all a person is looking for is technical skill and aesthetics then no explaination is required. If you want a deeper understanding of the artwork as well as the artist, explainations are welcome.

To say which is right and which is wrong is UN-possible because it's all about purpose. I don't know the details about WAR but if they wanted you to create a summary of your work to display, they probably should have quantified the request by telling you why it was needed. It could be because they wanted a description but it wasn't relevant to the judging.

Anyway, buck-up chaps! Just get back on that horse and blaze a few more saddles! O.o

*reads the log*

ZOMG. I always knew Shinn is an ass. and he compared Picasso? Every artist have their own description and Picasso ain't exception. Otherwise, how in the hell he came up with his works?

Well, I'd be surprised if he was selected as judges for future competitions.

Besides, Fly was the one who requested the description and I painstakingly prepared it despite my job overload and now the judges ain't reading them?

I'll think THRICE and ask who are the judges before I entered any competition. End of.

@ tecno - I'm considering continuing digital art and looking on things so I won't stop that, but there was a huge gap when I did stop submitting anything to Minitokyo, because of the load of crappy comments I got from people who didn't bother downloading my work and telling me all sorts of junk cuz once again, they couldn't accept something different. I only really started submitting healthily since the highlight feature was introduced to Mt because I thought that was a fair way of giving exposure to not necessarily flawless work, but to works that are different or at least not so typical. Then the popular submissions section started appearing on the front page again, and that's probably where it hit me the most. There was no point in readding in that section.
To top it off with the whole W.A.R and everything, generally I [and many others probably] anticipated something different at Mt, and at first I was pretty pleased with W.A.R - but since there is no revolution made at all, then any effort made, was useless. Simply put, it's like the competition never happened at all and I've been running around in circles.
I simply don't need my work to be submitted and then trodden on [though it wasn't mostly my work that entry- it was Shunpei's work and I traced it. Shunpei should be offended] *sigh* time will tell. I would like to see what happens in the near future- too early to tell :) I am still optimistic, but I do get cranky >.>

And my three favourite groups in Mt are UA, NWP and SR- I check them the most often, because I believe these are the three groups that can make a difference.
*sets up a PRO UA NWP SR campaign* XP

@ smilebit - I know what you mean- I love art. I wanted to be an artist when I was a kid and I never really had the best skills at drawing on paper. But then when I started making desktop wallpapers about 8 months ago when I joined Mt, I really did start to improve and I explored many different mediums through others I met and through making my own stuff. It really is though, a shame, because I don't want to share with people who seem respectable- I have nothing against anything here [unless it was the extreme sparkly top sub] but it is sad that I have to share with people who ... are soon going to be put down in my list of "not worthy of sharing with". It's sad, but it's disappointing.

@Makhan - I have to stay at Mt of course. There are all of my friends, my groups- and that was the reason why I stayed and didn't leave even when I stopped submitting. Even if I don't submit it's not a big deal- simply because there is no work valuation or anything anymore. I don't care for credits - I care for my friends and groups... so don't worry... I'm still here @_@;;

Quote by kuroimisalol, they were jabbing at my wallpaper. Honestly, it wasn't my fault I liked the scan. I had a feeling they didn't read the descriptions.

*sigh* Whatever ... all I can say was the contest started off wobbly ... it always seems like my work is always look down upon >_>

*kicks myself back to UA*

PS: I do understand how you feel ShueiTenshi. I put a lot of hard work into that round three and my first round entry - and the "squiggly" lines took me forever to do. Honestly, nobody got the idea of "kabuki" looking at it- people will continue to either not accept something different [uncommon art forms, styles etc].

I can say I'm disappointed too. I'll be thinking twice before I will submit that wallpaper.

PPS: I think I will be thinking twice before joining any OTHER competition actually. TREC won't be like that - definitely. All the judges are nice people, and the rules state that they will read every damn comma, semicolon, letter etc of the freaking description even if it has poor grammar, or if it is boring.

It's no wonder why I quit walling. Why the hell did I come back?

Because there are nice people here...? ^_^;; There's going to be people who you don't agree with in any community, that's just a fact of life. You can ignore those people pretty easily, though.

Besides, if you didn't come back, I'd be sad... T_T

hmm. i am disappointed too. very disappointed after reading that. mainly because a piece of art never fully depicts what it is meant to, to others. nobody really understands the reasoning behind ones work untit the person whoever made the work explains it. and to say fails is very mean. i like the competition because it gave me something to do, but then i didn't like the competition because the judges seemed mean, and on accounts biased. but it is over, i think. when is round three over? and @misa. i too have pictures that i have spent plenty of time and creative juice on which have earned very little appreciation. but it doesn't matter that much. i just like doing art. it isn't my fault that people don't like what i draw. anyhow, keep it real real.

well, for one i think that if you quit walling, dont do it because of others. if you really have to/need to, do it for yuorself. i dont know any circumstances that would require this action, but still, dont let others get ya down.
2. i agreee, not all competetions are gonna be the same, as some people are close-minded. that is why our group was started-- to let unique art forms be unhindered by the retarded "fads" of modern art.

and may i also remind everyone, it was OUR group that started the whole "contest-obsession" currently here on MT

lol, they were jabbing at my wallpaper. Honestly, it wasn't my fault I liked the scan. I had a feeling they didn't read the descriptions.

*sigh* Whatever ... all I can say was the contest started off wobbly ... it always seems like my work is always look down upon >_>

ya, shuei, thats pretty fked. i mean, i can see thier reasoning, but the fkin description is supposed to clarify if not explain the concept in deeper reasoning with words than images can convey. its a two part deal, you know?

i know when i see a wall on the net that has been ripped from a site (description less) i dont even really look at it unless it has something said.

Judges at W.A.R. were not reading the descriptions?!?! WTF?!

Here's the chatlog that I saved just 10 mins ago from MT irc

[CHATLOG LINK]

If they "Don't give a damn" about the description then why did I have to spend so much time on prepairing mine?! I demand an explanation from Flying.

Isn't the judge supposed to read the description?! What kind of judge "doesn't bother" with it?!?!

PS [Am I right or am I going crazy for notthing? I just find it offensive to the amount of work we have all spent on the contest. I am seriously dissapointed right now]

@Smile: Just wait till next term...you'll understand

@smilebit - congrats! *gives you the key to temporary freedom*
@artgeek - where did that comment come out from? A hat? o_0 Or did you go stalking me? XO Or was it sarcastic? :o

Congrats! Smile.....and i'm sorry (for next term). 3D is well....out of respect for the ladies i shall refrain from being vulgar but you know what i mean.

@Misa-chan: What pretty angelic eyes you have O.O!

you could send it through yousendit.com

but anyhow. YAY! my animation class is over. YAY! again. next term is free of animation, but spring term is going to be 3d imaging and animating. NOOOOO!
anyhow, i'm officially done with my art classes now. *gives self pat on the back* indeed.

*throws around gmail madness*

Maybe you should zip the psd, techno *angel smilie*

Hmm, that doesn't make sense. Even with a firewall, you should be able to send files that are attached to emails. I think the problem might be the file size. How big is the PSD? I think the largest attachment i've seen is around 10 megs.

yeah, i got an idea, lol i'll send ya a psd i of a scan ive been fixing up

merged: 11-29-2005 ~ 11:53am
well, sorry art, buti cant send the PSD to ya. i tried different emails (attaching) and file hosting services, but nothing is working. it might be that my school has put a new firewall into place >_<

i guess its a good thing i can host Jpgs, so i can go on wiht the contests, no?

Yup. I'm online most of the time now. I sneak a lot of hours while at work. Collabin' again sounds totally cool. It would be a good chance to brush up on some techniques too. Got something in mind?
