I'm a new student to the Japanese language and trying to learn it in South
Africa isn't that easy, I'll tell you. You can study many European languages,
Russian, Chinese, Arabic and natural all the South African official tribal
languages but Japanese, there simply aint many aids to stying the language, not
in bookshops or in the libraries. I found a by luck at one of the libraries in
Port Elizabeth and have been working from that, but when it comes to
pronunciations, reading just does't help as listening would. Between this book
and the Internet it is going very slowly though.
- E-mails with my Japanese penpals.
- Items made in Japan (my manga inking kit is made in Japan)
- Japanese newspapers
- Manga
- Japanese movies
- Japanese dictionary
- The net such as Japanese websites
To the guy who said he learns Japanese from Manga, I recommend you get a kanji
dictionary and a Japanese penpal if you happen to come across one who wants to
become your penpal by chance like me. I was stuck on a kanji for days, until I
decided to ask her for help. She helped a lot!
I warning to everyone here. The longer the e-mail in English, the longer the
reply will be since they might not have the time to decipher very long
e-mails.
By the way, when I brag it means I'm very, very, very, very bored!
Quote by SonicWindBwahahahahahaa! I
have the advantage of learning Japanese over you scruffs! I have a few pen pals
from Japan including those in Tokyo and Okinawa!
I must admit, I find Japanese almost easier to learn than the original language
I have ever spoken which I'm still having difficulties even after over 17 years,
English!
Dear me, oh well.
well..you don't need to brag about it though...
but oh well ^^

i think there's 2 different japanese language for "excuse me" one is
sumimasen and one is... i dunno how to spell it...?
so what is it
In japanese, sumimasen can mean both excuse me and sorry. When one apologizes to
one's elders, sumimasen is usually used because it's more polite.
I have an idea for Japanese group. Vocabulary is always the obstacle for who
wants to learn foreign language. It's difficult to start conservation with
someone while u don't know what to say. Can u guys provide us with some new
words. Maybe 20 words per week, and distributing them into groups (some words
about colour, about job etc.). Japanese group have vocabulary section but it's
too few, doesn't satisfiy people like Japanese (like me ^_^). If u think this is
alright, please do this asap.

I think it's "gomene"... actually there's a formal version but I don't
remember what... "gomenosai" ?

the two are used differently... May I suggest you to read "Pera pera
penguin" ? (With google, it's easy to find it) It's a column from a
japanese newspaper for english-speakers that want to learn japanese. Kind of
mini-lessons with little stories (japanese customs, or things that may surprise
foreigners) so I enjoy reading them... even without really learning
japanese.

gomene.

SonicWind - Wow, you're a very lucky person. Where do you make these kind of pen-pals? Is there a certain site for it?
