so how do you waveshine

Haha, yeah, everynow and then I'll short-hop with the buttons, but not often.
And yeah, I always switch to the buttons for wavedashing. That's practically the only time I'll tend to use the buttons. heh ^_^'
And to answer your question, I only know of one of the three you said. And that's waveshining. And I've got that down pretty good. I can get better though. And I have an idea of wavesmashing. Is it when you wavedash and in the end of the wavedash, you pull off a smash attack?
And my only idea for waveshielding is wavedashing and putting your shield up at the end. .::shrugs::.
Don't leave us in suspense though, tell us about them. xD

never heard of them
but i would like to learn them
especially waveshining because it sounds like its related to fox

Jeez... you'd be surprised how much easier it is to shorthop with the buttons...

Anyway, how do you wavedash if you use the control stick to jump? I can't imagine someone wavedashing effectively. Unless you switched to the buttons for wavedashing? That would work.

Out of curiousity, does anyone know what waveshielding, wavesmashing, and waveshining are?

Hello! Its been a while since I've been back ^^' long vacation. Ah, I've been playing! I've been playing! I had no idea there was a left hand/glove thing 0-o he's hard ><

Oh
Welcome welcome welcome! ^^
Welcome to our group.
Heh, so I guess most of you use the buttons aye?
I suppose I'm the oddball of the group.

I used to use the control stick, but I started using the X and y because it's easier to do short jumps with.

Oh, and hello just joined :)

-Alexzandra

I use the x and y as well, just because I have been using that for so long and just trying to use the control stick after is just hard for me. I would be saying I prefer the control stick if I used that the first time I played melee but that isnt the case.

i prefer the x and y
its so much easier for me

.::shrugs::. Everyone has their own ways. I dunno why, but I've always had a harder time tapping x or y. I just got used to tapping the control stick. I guess I'm wierd like that. heh ^_^'
But I know what you mean about the fastfalling bit. It happens to me everynow and then, not as often as before, so I've worked that kink out for myself.
Oh and thanks, I guess I did an ok job with explainin/describing things.

Say, it just hit me. What do you peeps usually use? x or y, or the control stick? Cause you know Lin prefers the buttons, while I prefer the control stick. So I was wondering what the group preffered. And all of this is outta curiousity. heh

I use X and Y; your jumps are more precise, and I personally think that it's easier to press a button than move a whole finger. Also, if you're trying to meteor smash someone with a dair and you jump off the stage with the control stick, you might fastfall when you move your thumb down. Good job with describing how to wavedash.

thnx for the advice, I hope I can get it down now or at least by the time the new melee comes out.
cya all around

ill try that sometime
thanks

Ah fox
This is something I do know.
You know how you're supposed to lightly tap upwards with the control stick(that's how I jump) or tap x or y?
Well, if you use the control stick, instead of tapping upwards, tap diagonaly. It'll increase your chances of short-hopping.
And another cheaper way of wavedashing is...
1.)Just hold down the control stick diagonally and keep it there.
2.)When you have it in place, just tap Y and then a split second later tap R.
3.)When you get used to having the Control Stick diagonally, try it without holding down the control stick diagonally.
That's the only way I really got to perfect wavedashing.
Tell me if you understand what I'm saying cause sometimes it's hard for me to give instructions.

Short-hopping with Fox takes a lot of practice. Even now I can't short-hop at will, but that's only out of a shine.

i got the wave dash down but i cant short hop with fox
i can only do it a few times

Hmm... I would suggest going to training mode with what character you're using. Set the speed down to 1/2 or 2/3, and when your character rises off the ground even by the slightest movement, wavedash right there. Try getting to the point where your control stick is nearly horizontal when you wavedash so that you get the maximum distance out of it.

Incorporating it into play is even harder than learning it. I would suggest using it for edgehogs only at first, then start feinting your dashes and wavedash out of short-hops to feint them even more. I would also suggest retreating with wavedashes when your opponent will least expect it. You can easily punish for laggy dash attacks if you wavedash quickly enough. Wavedancing (wavedashing back and forth) will also help make them confused and will allow you to punish if they charge you and you retreat back.

I actually have an extremly hard time wavedashing in a match, can you guys give me tips on how you practiced it? That would be fantastic.

Yeah... it's coming out this year though. When it comes out we need a clan name. We had a debate about this before... what should it be?

Hmm, you and I could fair well as rivals lin. We do alot of the same things. I'm still a bit sketchy with l-canceling. But I do it well.
And I agree with the both of you. I can't wait for the Rev. to come out to check up on my skills.
But such a long wait wouldn't you agree? OX

Pessimistic is when you have a negative point of view for a topic.

I would rank myself slightly above the average player; between intermediate and average. I incorporate wavedashes to my strategy, I abuse shffl'd attacks, I l-cancel on command, I edgehog, I intercept, I can sort of shinespike and waveshine, I can tech... I can do a lot of stuff. The thing is is that there are people I know that are better than me. I can't compare myself to them because they're at college, so I don't know how I would do against them. The only thing I can do is to practice as much as possible and prepare for that time we fight again. Like ozg82889, I'm waiting for the Revolution to test my skills. Only then I can compare myself to other people.

first of all whats Pessimistic. i know im not that good. i need more practice so my week off im going to play all day.i can tech on comand from long ago. shuffl'ling and stuff like that i didnt practice because i thought i might not be able to them and stuff but now i think if i practice i might be able to do those things. i dont want to practice with other characters because i only use fox. i cant wait till rev because then i will be able to see how good i really am.

Well said lin, well said.
Pessimistic or not, it's very true. And I've been practicin' for months. I can wavedash with various characters, short hop on command, shffl well, edgegaurd, combo, and etc. And I only do these things well, not perfectly or great.
But what about you Lin? How would you rank yourself with these skills?

People can get good by watching combo videos; I would say that I am in one of the top 10 in my school of 4,000-5,000. However, you don't know the competitiveness and mind games you face until you go to a tournament where people are serious about playing and having fun.

Quote: i dont feel like much of a noob anymore. i can wavedash most of the time now when im playing a match. im able to short hop a little now and i can do better combos now. ive improved a lot over these two days.

That's great! I don't mean to sound mad or pessimistic, but I don't think that it's possible to improve that much over two days unless you gamed for hours straight. Practice shorthopping until you can do it on command. Practice wavedashing with every character. Practice combos, practice edgeguarding, practice recovering, just practice, practice, and practice. There are so many things to practice; I just doubt that you can master all of them yet. Did you practice l-canceling yet? Or teching? Or shffl'ing (short-hop fast-fall l-cancel)? Yeah... I sound really pessimistic, but the point is that there are many things that you can practice and improve on. Sure, you improved a lot, but it's not very impressive if you are bad compared to other people. You have to practice until it becomes instinctive. That's when you are done practicing.
